When Nerds Travel 2017
Another year of traveling with big nerdy glasses on.
The nerdy universe is vast and ever-expanding. Each year is filled with an eclectic combination of comic-cons, fan fests, spectacular events and flat-out nerdy places. Come with us as we revisit our trek through a small slice of this nerdy universe.
The Wonderful World of Comics Convention, as WonderCon was originally named, was back home in Anaheim in March.
Pi Day, March 14 (3.14)
May was the nerdiest month of the year for 2017 with three nerd holidays and a plethora of conventions. Whovians and comic fans gathered in Minnesota for CONsole Room and MSP ComiCon and creative cosplayers flocked to Phoenix Comicon.
Star Wars Day, May 4
Free Comic Book Day, May 5
Towel Day, May 25
July is the apex of the nerd calendar. In 2017, not only Comic-Con International: San Diego and all its grandeur but also Disney’s event for its fan club. D23 Expo was more than mouse ears with properties like Star Wars and Marvel in their portfolio. Always sights to be seen at CONvergence, where all forms of art and fandom meet.
December nerds everywhere spent time at the movie theaters, enjoying a bit of Star Wars again this year. Also, a stop was made to the Little Tardis Library to drop off some books on the way to see Doctor Who on the big screen.
