Four Ways to Celebrate May the 4th

By MJ Wilke

Star Wars Day, May 4, as in May the Fourth (Force) Be With You, is celebrated worldwide. This year offers many opportunities to embrace your fandom.

Viewing Marathon.

So many choices – movies and TV series. There is something for everyone and every age.

Movie marathon. With nine films in the Skywalker Saga, make it a two-day light side/dark side marathon for May the Fourth (force) and May the Fifth (Sith).

Binge something new to you. There are so many Star Wars options, you may not have seen them all: The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars Forces of Destiny, LEGO Star Wars, just to name a few of our favorites. Explore!

Read/Watch/Listen/Play.

Again, so many choices. Make it a combo weekend, then super-size it. Grab a book; there are literally hundreds of Star Wars books. “Star Wars: Thrawn” is available in all formats, including audiobook. Choose your favorite movies or TV episodes to watch. Fill your space with music from the brilliant mind of John Williams, start with the original soundtrack and then weave your way through the plethora of Star Wars music. And finish up your super-sized weekend with your own adventure in the worlds of Star Wars interactive: games, virtual reality, Star Wars app.

Activities.

Get crafty; from a crocheted Baby Yoda to a toilet paper roll Lightsaber – it’s all out there. Pinterest and Starwars.com have dozens of craft projects or head over to Etsy where kits make making easy. Be a Jedi Master in the kitchen; you can find cookbooks, aprons and more – Le Creuset even has a line of Star Wars items. Create a May the Fourth 4k track in your backyard, and include water bottle labels and T-shirts, or even costumes to run in. For more information on virtual races see: Staying Fit and Nerdy at Home.

Toast.

At the end of a long Star Wars day or weekend, gather in your personal Mos Eisley Cantina and put on some Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes on the stereo. Then raise a toast to the man who started it all and all the people over the years who have helped make the magic happen. Be it blue milk or a Skywalker red. (Bonus: George Lucas’ Skywalker Vineyards is having a May the Fourth sale!
